His whisky ‘eureka moment’ came as a marketing specialist looking after an account for a well established distillery. “I’d predominantly been a wine and ale drinker, and saw whisky as a drink for snobs and show-offs. But actually having an expert from the distillery host a tasting of different bottlings, ages and casks I was stunned at the subtleties and textures. I was hooked! It was a simple case of having the opportunity to be talked through the regions that allowed me to comprehend the complexities I’d been missing. This is why we’re making Master of Whiskies training courses available to all – I want you to share my eureka moment!”
Favourite Scotch: I’m still on a learning curve, and find the intense peatiness of some Islay & Islands scotches too much. As the first distillery I visited, Glenkinchie holds a real place in my heart – the 12 year old is a lovely honeyed lowland whisky, one I keep returning to with my friends, again and again!
